Let’s Talk About…The He-Man Budget

Episode 7

In the latest episode of Let’s Talk About… the boys discussed the He-Man budget and whether a movie based on a franchise from the 1980’s is the best way to spend $200 million.

At the time of recording, we were a few days from release, and the results from the film's opening weekend were being looked at in detail. Having only raked in $54 million, the film had a very long way to break even, let alone make a profit, so now is the best time to discuss the budget problem facing Hollywood right now.

To make it a fair discussion, we thought we would compile a list of other notable movies with that kind of budget - and yes, while inflation certainly plays a part in whether this is a fair comparison or not, it's just fun to make the comparison anyway:

  • Skyfall

  • Toy Story movies

  • Tenet

  • Black Panther

  • Tangled

  • Titanic

  • King Kong

  • Killers of a Flower Moon

  • Avatar

Is this as ludicrous as our brains are telling us, or are we just being tight?

Disclaimer: Neither of us had seen the film at this point in time, so there is no discussion or comment on what the film is actually like…we’ll save that for Such A Ranker one day!
