Fans of everything from the biggest blockbuster to the tiny independent, The Reel Project just loves to come together to chat, argue and debate the good, the bad and the ugly in the world of cinema.
We hope you guys enjoy!
A Bit About Us:
-
We try to review as much as we can, but have realised life gets in the way too, so we try to review what we can, when we can, and most importantly, when we have an opinion on something that we want to share
-
Ian has been writing reviews for nearly 10 years now, this site holds everything he’s written, so we wanted to share his archive while we navigate life, watching films and the podcast
-
Life finds a way…it just takes time! The podcast has taken up a lot of time so this is mainly an archive, but as/when he finds the time to write, he’ll get it posted
-
You’ll see in the archive that they used to be scored 0-5, but as time went on, scores started feeling relatively meaningless when it comes to reviewing something so subjective, so we try to avoid scoring now and just sum up our feelings in the opening paragraph. In Such A Ranker, films are pitted against one another to see what our favourite films are from the bunch, but they are never scored either (unless we discuss the metascore)
-
We try to be as spoiler-free as we can, but sometimes a spoiler might slip through the net. The podcast however is ripe with spoilers as we turns films inside out!
-
Honestly, we watch anything we find interesting to talk about - there are even a few short films in the archive
-
We like to get a temperature check of movies using Metacritic, or Rotten Tomatoes, but we also follow film critics that we find interesting and can explain things in ways we only wish we could. Mark Kermode has always been my ‘north star’, but really like Robbie Collin and Clarisse Loughrey too. For the podcast, we like to follow Empire magazine, as its a good way to set a consistent metric when diving deep into a film makers career
-
Mostly operated independently, but have also written for some local newspapers and for Film Hounds magazine - he used to head up All Things Movies UK, until that shut down a few years ago
-
Sam and Ian - film fans that love to talk about movies all day, every day
