Let’s Talk About…The Rip’s Netflix Deal
Episode 9
In the latest episode of Let’s Talk About… the boys go behind the scenes to discuss the seemingly incredible, first of its kind Netflix deal that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon managed to get for their movie The Rip?
Originally read about in the Hollywood reporter, the story goes that Affleck and Damon signed a deal with Netflix through their production house, ‘Artist Equity’. The deal essentially guaranteed all 1,200 people involved in the movie the chance for a back end bonus depending on how the film performed over its opening 90 days on the streaming service, a feat that has never been achieved before given Netflix notorious up-front buyer policy.
Releasing to above average reviews and a mighty impressive 41.6 million views in its opening weekend, it was an out and out success for the streaming giant, so we thought it was time to grab a cup of tea, sit down and discuss it.
Things we cover in this weeks episode:
Why do you think its taken so long for this type of deal to be a thing? If it aint broke? Or greed?
Do you think this has legs and will become part of the mainstream business model?
Do you think this is a good replacement for box office performance?
Do you reckon this will impact the other streamers to do similar things?
